A picture of Jackie Henshall

Jackie Henshall

In this exhibition I am launching my first book of poetry and drawings titled ‘There came upon me in the night a quiet’. The creative process for this book has happened in surprising ways, sometimes the poem coming first and sometimes the drawing, conversing together along the way, changing each other and changing me too. Fascinated with the interplay of image with language I have been working with the hope that together they may say something that can’t be said by either alone about the unfathomable experience of being alive. At some point along the way I also began to do some glass sculptures inspired by the words or drawings, and so it goes on, words into images, images into words, together perhaps more than the sum of their parts?

About the Artist

Jackie Henshall (BA Fine Art, Central College of Art, London) is an artist currently working with kiln glass from her studio in an old renovated woollen mill in West Wales where she also lives. Previously she established a successful business designing papercraft, cards and giclee prints which were distributed throughout UK, Europe and Australia. Her art has been featured in several books, and her poems published individually. This is the first time she has combined her poems with her drawings, although she has for some time now been including verse in her kiln glass. An intrepid walker and traveller she draws much inspiration from the natural worlds.
