A picture of Ian Phillips

Ian Phillips

In 2001 Ian moved away from a career as an illustrator in London to live in Mid Wales where he could study the rural landscape. Influenced strongly by Japanese printmaking, Ian set out to create sequential series of large scale landscape and seascape linocut prints utilising all the techniques he had learned over the intervening years. These techniques were acquired in various places including a residency with artists from the Torres Strait Islands at Djumbunji Print Workshop in Cairns, studying with Professor Wang Chou in Hangzhou, China and working with the Pine Feroda collaboration in Devon.

Ian has exhibited widely in the UK as well as showing in Hong Kong, Japan and the US. His work is in permanent collection of The National Library of Wales and the Houses of Parliament.
